Sri Lanka- Colombo

As my birthday was nearing I was wondering which country to go...Eventually Sri Lanka came in my mind! On the 7th July 2011 I landed Bandaranayake Airport at 7am local time.Beautiful and a neat airport with pleasant staffs very impressed indeed.
The taxi man took almost two hours to locate my hotel as the address was misleading and he charged me extra 500 rupees so it came 2800 rupees for a journey which normally coast less than 100 rupees.I had a rude shock upon reaching the hotel Tropic Inn @De Vos Avenue No.19. I was told the hotel overlooked my booking and I was rerouted to Tropic Inn@12 in Mount Lavinia the sub branch. That coast me another 300 rupees for the auto rickshaw. I got no words to appreciate. Tropic Inn @12 and the staff namely Nawas and Madhu were friendly.Nawas the Manager went extra mile and rendered assistance and help. The next day 8th July was my birthday!
The bus journey took some 20minutes to reach Colombo city.Comparatively Colombo city is 25 years behind the development of Kuala Lumpur.Very neat and clean town with very friendly people.I walked to the Fort Colombo Railway station and the nearby shops. It was busy station with local travelers.Buddhist shrines seen everywhere and the road signs were clothed with English,Singhala and Tamil.
Its difficult to define the Sinhalese and the Tamils as they look very identical though they speak different language. The country slowly recovering from the civil war that lasted almost 35 years.
